Resistors and Resistor Color Code -
A quick look at resistors and resistor color codes with pictures and charts.
Capacitors and Inductors -
Increase your knowledge of capacitors and inductors with these simple explanations.
Simple power supplies like this are sometimes called battery eliminators when they are made to output a particular voltage, 9 volts for example. If they are made adjustable, then a wide range of useful voltages can be produced from one simple power supply.
This basic electronics circuit is actually a very low frequency square wave oscillator. The frequency of the square wave output determines the flash rate of the light emiting diodes. You see similar circuits in use by cities and highway departments as flashing warning lights.
This is an interesting combination of two basic electronic ciruits, an oscillator operating in the audio frequency range and an audio amplifier that allows a speaker to be connected to the oscillator. By using the amplifier to amplify the output of the oscillator, you can obtain a loud sound that can be used for an alarm or anything else that requires a loud audio tone.
Zener diodes are an interesting type of diode. They conduct in the forward biased direction just like ordinary diodes but it's the reverse biased condition that's interesting because the voltage drop across the diode in the reversed direction is constant making them a good voltage regulator.
Soldering Skills and Printed Circuit BoardsIf you are new to soldering electronic components, here are a few helpful hints. Use a small 25 to 30 watt iron with a good pointed tip. When you first use the iron, as soon as it heats enough to melt solder, place a small amount of solder around the tip. |

Off The Subject But Interesting...
This is a little off the subject, but if you have ever heard of Nikola Tesla you might know about his involvement with alternating current
and his battles with the Edison Company, later to become General Electric, which at the time, late 1890's, was building direct current motors and generators.
Anyway, Tesla has been sort of labeled as a "weird inventor scientist" but as it turns out many of his ideas hold water today!
